I think it's important that we are aware of the times we live in and that we take the Bible's warnings about end time events seriously. May I suggest that if you are going to take what the Bible says seriously, that you completely ignore the 2012 Movie. We have something better than that. First, the movie is just a movie, there to make money. Secondly, it is full of lies, myths and bad science - as this website points out so well. Visit the FAQ page and you will see. Mayan priests are angry at the way non-Mayan people have interpreted their writings. Mayan priests say that 2012 is not the end of the world with destruction of continents but the begining of a new spiritual era. Whether they are right about the new spiritual era or not (which I don't believe the are - its just a calendar) , the point is that the Movie lies about Mayan beliefs and the Mayans have stated this. The movie also talks about certain rays from the sun penetrating the earth's soft outer crust and melting the hard inner core. This is a laughing point for real scientists who will tell you that if these rays from the sun were strong enough to melt the hard inner core, they would have melted the soft outer surface long before this. The movie has it backwards. We have solar flares all the time. the biggest one ever was around 1998 I think (see the page on this site on solar flares) and that caused some localised blackouts in Canada. Nothing on the scale of what you see in the 2012 movie. The Bible is a book of truth. the movie is a money making lie. The movie naiively conveys the posibility that mankind can actually save itself from such destruction. When God's final judgements come, there will be NO escape. And the final scene will not be people floating in modern day Noah's Arcs but standing before the Judgement seat of God. Volcanoes have erupted before and done far more damage and carnage than the Iceland one. True, there have been some devestating Tsunami's recently and earthquakes too and while these may be on the increase, it is only on a long term time scale that you can actually measure these. This is information that can be and should be looked up on geological sites that record data about earthquakes, their frequency and magnitude. As for Revelaltion 7. While I believe what the Bible says, I do not believe there is enough hard evidence (certainly not in your presentation) to suggest that we are in Rev. 7 now. The day will come, and it will be a terrible day and, as you say, people need to be right with God and be sealed (with the Holy Spirit) by repentance and faith in Jesus. If you wanted to, you could take a number of slices of history and compare them with recent days/years and find a good number of similarities when it comes to natural disasters. There are other signns we need to look out to for the Lord's return, not just natural disasters. Some of these have not yet been fulfilled for Rev. 7 to be upon us. Again, can I suggest having a look at the Signs of the Times page on this site as it has some helpful stuff there. There is even a link on it that give you data on earthquakes. Well, I hope that you don't think I've been unkind in the things I've said. I just happen to have a different opinion on the timing of Rev. 7. The important thing for everyone to remember is that 10 out of 10 people die and one day we will stand before our maker. | |
